CasaTorch Terms of Use
1. Who we are
CasaTorch is made by CasaTorch LLC, PO Box 123, Yourtown, ST 00000 ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [email protected].
2. What CasaTorch is
CasaTorch is software you run on your own hardware (a computer, NAS, Raspberry Pi or a CasaTorch Box) to see and control devices and information in your home. It works on your own network. The open-source core is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0; nothing in these terms limits your rights under that license. CasaTorch Pro features and the CasaTorch Box are offered under these terms.
3. Accounts and security
- The person who sets up CasaTorch is its owner and decides who else gets an account and what they can do.
- Keep your password, authenticator app and recovery codes safe. Anyone who signs in with your account can see and switch what your account can.
- Only give accounts to people you trust with your home, and remove accounts that are no longer needed.
- Do not try to get into accounts or homes that are not yours, or to get around CasaTorch's security.
4. Not a safety or emergency system
CasaTorch is not a security, alarm, fire, smoke, leak, medical or emergency system, and must not be relied on as one. Devices, networks, the internet and software can fail, be late or be wrong. Keep the safety devices and services your home needs (for example smoke alarms, monitored alarms and emergency numbers) working independently of CasaTorch. CasaTorch deliberately does not unlock doors, open garage doors or gates, or disarm alarms from its automatic features or its AI assistant.
5. Devices and services you connect
CasaTorch works with devices and services made by others (for example Home Assistant, Philips Hue, Shelly, Ring, weather and news providers, and AI providers such as Anthropic or OpenAI). Those are provided by their makers under their own terms and privacy policies, may change or stop working, and some cost money - including AI usage, which those providers bill to you directly. We are not responsible for them.
6. CasaTorch Pro, the Box and services
- Pro is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription or a one-time license, as shown at purchase. A license is for your household's use and may not be resold or shared outside it.
- Subscriptions renew until you cancel; cancelling stops the next renewal. Refunds follow the policy shown at purchase and the consumer laws that apply to you.
- If a Pro license lapses, the free features keep working and your data stays on your hardware.
- Support, "Service & Developer Access" and network consultation services are provided as described when you buy them. Custom work remains subject to these terms.
- CasaTorch Box hardware comes with the manufacturer's warranty and the statutory rights you have where you live.
7. Acceptable use
Use CasaTorch only for homes and devices you are allowed to control, and in line with the law - including privacy laws when cameras or sensors can see or hear other people.
8. Updates
We may release updates that add, change or remove features. You choose when to install them. Security updates are strongly recommended.
9. Warranty and liability
To the extent the law allows, CasaTorch is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss or damage caused by devices, networks or third-party services, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Ending
You can stop using CasaTorch at any time and delete its data folder. We may end a Pro license or service if you seriously break these terms.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, the new version shows the next time you sign in and you will be asked to accept it to keep using CasaTorch. The version date is at the top.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Yourstate, United States, without affecting mandatory consumer protections where you live.
